ARTIST PROFILE :: Nandita Mukand at One East Asia

Mukand discusses her meditations on nature as a city-dweller, how flora inspires her work, and how she visually expresses the continual changes that occur in life, death and decay.   Artitute: The title of your latest solo is “Forest Weft, City Warp”. It sounds like for you, your experience with nature is interwoven with your time living in an urban environment. Tell us more about how the natural environment informs your life in the city, and inspires your current work. Nandita Mukand: Observing nature has become one of my ways of trying to process my urban experience. When I walk alone in the mountains and forests I often have access to another dimension.  It feels like I can step out of my everyday life and see it from the outside with a lot more perspective.
