The annual Indonesian Cultural Night musical is back on stage this February. After garnering success with its Bali-themed musical in 2016, the Indonesian students in Nanyang Technological University are ready to bring a piece of Indonesian culture to the National Drama Centre, Singapore once again. Titled ICN 2018: Lakonna, the original musical is set in Tana Toraja, an exotic, ancient civilization in Sulawesi. Although it is inspired by centuries-old folktale called ‘Batingna Lebonna’, Lakonna remains relevant in modern times as it explores many dilemma and issues we still face today. The musical follows Arrang, a man who has it all. Arrang is the firstborn of the head of the village who is expected to succeed his father as the village head upon his father’s death. The charming man has the approval of his father and the adoration of the villagers and he recently found the love of his life, Tanoana. Little does he know that his childhood friend, Malitta, has been in love with him for a long time and is determined to make Arrang hers.
