“Blés Vendôme” is the third act of an artistic vegetal installation, Nature Capital, a journey to bring nature to cities that began in 2010.  It is a tribute to wheat that universal symbol of rebirth, which must disappear each year in order to be reborn the following season.  Since the beginning of time, and in all artistic disciplines, wheat has inspired artists, creators, thinkers. It is a poetic installation composed of wheat, wood and sand, created on the Place Vendôme in July 2016. “Blés Vendôme” marks the hope that in 2016, like the wheat, we will collectively be reborn into a better society. “Blés Vendôme” is a collective act of generosity shared with the public and is the result of the work of hundreds of men and women. It offers the opportunity to everyone, whoever they are, wherever they are from, day or night, to live and experience this reinvented wheat field. “Blés Vendôme” is a shared vision with CHANEL, the sponsor of this artwork, which was exhibited in Gabrielle Chanel’s city of birth, Saumur. Wheat was a key element in Gabrielle CHANEL’s universe, surrounding herself with it and believing it was a lucky charm. After the Place Vendôme, Saumur and Taipei, Blés Vendôme has found a new arena in which to reach out to the public in 2018. I [...]

ARTO, the Singapore based startup that helps consumers to discover and buy art using their Artificial Intelligence based art recommendation, just announced that officially launched their Android App and reached more than 40,000 iPhone downloads since its commercial launch last year. “We know it’s difficult to describe your own art taste or the particular type of painting you’re seeking, and I knew there had to be a better way,” Jonie, Co-founder of ARTO says. “I thought about how to make this easier and came up with ARTO, which provides personal recommended artworks based on what you like, instead of you having to actively search for it.” “This is also great for the artists who have uploaded their art images onto the platform. Because ARTO knows the art preference of a certain user it can match it with the artwork of a specific artists, bringing supply and demand together.” Jonie adds The ARTO application is the next step in enhancing the digital experience in the art industry. Both the art connoisseur as well as non-art experts can find great art pieces as the app covers all genres ranging from classical to pop art. In addition to art from both independent artists [...]

An open call for contributors to OAT 2019 launched on October 29th. The deadline is 19th November 2018. OAT 2019 will challenge the growth paradigm and investigate the architecture of alternatives. Architects, urban practitioners, activists, novelists, artists, researchers, citizens and others are invited to join this investigation. Open call for Oslo Architecture Triennale 2019 The engine of contemporary architectural production, and the basis of societies around the world, is economic growth. Global political orthodoxy declares GDP growth is always good; that more is more. Throughout the last two centuries, increased economic growth brought with it many measures of prosperity, but for many decades now the limits to growth have been visible on the horizon. Social equity, health and wellbeing, quality of life, happiness and other non-monetary measures of success are faltering while resource extraction, greenhouse gas emissions, waste and toxicity, temperatures, sea levels, extreme weather, and many such indicators of climate breakdown make clear daily that the time of this worldview is running out. The next Oslo Architecture Triennale will challenge the supremacy of economic growth and investigate the architecture of alternatives. The festival will explore the buildings, spaces and institutions of a new culture in which economic growth is [...]

Alexander Boynes –‘As Above, So Below’

‘As Above, So Below’ reflects on the loss of the Australian landscape in the drive to extract what is beneath it by the fossil fuel industry; land that before anything else is held in the custody of Traditional Indigenous owners. This melding of landscape and industry speaks of our failure to invest in a renewable future, as coal, oil and gas extraction dominate the power industry without consequence. Meanwhile standing in a rapidly changing environment, the figure represents both the catalyst and the casualty of these actions. Exhibition at MAY SPACE, Sydney. 14 November to 2 December 2018. 409b George Street Waterloo NSW Australia 2017. t: (02) 9318 1122, e: info@mayspace.com.au, w: www.mayspace.com.au.   Love makes the world go round. We hear in it music, we see it in movies, we imagine it through literature. We wax lyrical about romance and how we’re predestined to be swept off our feet when we’ve found the One. Love hurts and even so, its virtues far outweigh all its dysfunctionalities. We tell ourselves: “Romance is a construct and we’re better than that”, only to fall right back into its timeless seduction. So, what is it about love that makes it worth the lifelong pursuit? Another love song tops the charts. Another fling in a foreign land. Another bout of cold feet. Affections is a new comedy about romantic love and its trappings inspired by Chuck Mee’s Big Love and Limonade Tous les Jours. Follow seven characters as they navigate expectations, identity politics, and cultural differences when it comes to the precarious four-letter word.   Affections by The Assembly Point 5 & 6 Dec, Thu & Fri, 8pm 7 Dec, Sat, 3pm & 8pm Duration: 1h Cast: Tia Andrea Guttensohn, Fatin Syahirah, Jeramy Lim, Jelaine Ng Sha-Men Tickets Super Early Bird: $18 Early Bird: $20 General Admission: $25 About The Assembly Point The Assembly Point is an ensemble-based theatre collective [...]
